(James 1:17).

If the most desirable person that ever lived, the most beautiful, the most handsome, the most intelligent, the most lovely; the person that you cannot take your eyes off of, who fills you with joy and happiness, came to you with great gifts of riches and honor, would you not have delight in your heart. This person's name is ‘WISDOM'.

Those that seek wisdom and began to attain it are offered great gifts by God. What are these gifts? They are long life, riches and honor.

David was so concerned about his son acquiring wisdom that he taught him of its importance; "Acquire wisdom! Acquire understanding! Do not forget, nor turn away from the words of my mouth. Do not forsake her, and she will guard you; Love her, and she will watch over you." (Proverbs 4:5-6).

Proverbs 3 - Teaches us today?

Proverbs 3:15-16 "(15) She is more precious than jewels; And nothing you desire compares with her. (16) Long life is in her right hand; In her left hand are riches and honor."

Psalm 49:18-20 (Theme: Man's Final Destiny). "(18) Though while he lives he congratulates himself- And through men praise you when you do well for yourself- (19) He shall go to the generation of his fathers; They shall never see the light. (20) Man in his pomp, yet without understanding, Is like the beasts that perish."

Today's question. Why do so few obtain wisdom?

"But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all men generously and without reproach, and it will be given to him." (James 1:5).

When you pray the prayer asking God for wisdom, He does not pour it into your mind. He could if He wanted to, but this would make men/women akin to robots. It treats God as if He were a vending machine. Insert prayer and receive wisdom. The prayer in James 1:5 is answered by God, but the ways of God are to engage us in the process.

When we pray for wisdom we are asking God to provide us with instruction, a teacher or mentor that will aid us in our understanding. We are asking God to give us the experiences we need to gain a depth of understanding and the ability to make correct decisions. We are praying to God to give us exposure to His Word, books and conversations with others to aid in our understanding. And, we are praying to God to prepare our minds and hearts to receive wisdom and to love the process.

Solomon asks God in 1 Kings 3:9-10; "So give Thy servant an understanding heart to judge Thy people to discern between good and evil. For who is able to judge this great people of Thine? And it was pleasing in the sight of the Lord that Solomon had asked this thing." Solomon asked for wisdom with the proper motive; to help his people.

God gave Solomon a wise and discerning heart, but He also gave Solomon great teachers and vast experience to develop wisdom in him that no other man or woman has yet been able to achieve.

Dear God, thank you for the way you answer our prayers. Although there are times when we need a miracle, I rejoice in your engaging me in the process. All I need is to do is work and I pray for strength to do so. Amen.

TRCB.com
