An Insight On Self - Concept
Self-concept means
self-awareness or self -image.
Our self-concept is made up of three parts:
The first part is our self-ideal. This is the person we would most like
to be. This is a description of the values that we feel are the highest we can
have and live by. Our self-ideal is made up of a combination of all the qualities
that we most admire in ourselves and in other people.
The second part of our self-concept is our self-image. Our
self-image can be defined as the way you see ourselves in the present moment.
Our self-image is a combination of how we see ourselves, how others see us and
how we think others see us.
All three may be different. That is, we may see
ourselves in a certain way, we may think others see us in a different way, and,
then, others may see us differently from
our own perceptions When our self-image is fully integrated, the way we
see ourselves, the way others see us and the way we think others see us all are
the same.
The more we are living our life consistent with our values and
ideals, the more integrated our self-image is, and the better we perform at
everything we attempt.
The third part of our self-concept is our self-esteem. Our
self-esteem can be defined as how much you like yourself and respect ourselves.
Our level of self-esteem determines our personality, our level of stress, how
much enthusiasm and excitement we have in life, how happy we are, how positive
we are, and how we get along with people. Our self-esteem is the real measure and
monitor of our personality and largely determines everything that happens to us
in our interactions and relationships with others.
