If there is one university in the state of California that has maintained many school traditions for all these years, it is the University of California at Berkeley, also known as Berkeley, UC Berkeley California, or simply Cal. This university, which was established in 1868, was the first public university in the state to be called the University of California. Nowadays, however, University of California system is composed of many UC universities all across the state.

Alex Henery kicked a 57-yard field goal (a school record) to lift the Nebraska Cornhuskers over the Colorado Buffaloes. The field goal came with under 2 minutes left to go in the game.

Despite four of the Florida Gators, Walter Hodges (16), Alex Tyus (15), Nick Calathes (12), and Chandler Parsons (12) scoring in the double digits, The Gators fell in a February 24th contest at Pete Maravich Assembly Center 81-75 to guarantee Louisiana State University at least a share in the Southeastern Conference championships.

The Florida Gators football team, of the Southeastern Conference, was the 2008 national champion. The Florida Gators are well-known to all sports fanatics and the stadium they play in, the Ben Hill Griffin Stadium is known as one of the hardest places for the competition to play.

In 1851, Florida Governor Thomas Brown approved a bill to provide assistance to higher education. Two years later, Gilbert Kingsbury took advantage of that legislation and instituted the East Florida Seminary. The effort closed during the American Civil War, but EFS would later become what we now know as the University of Florida.
