October 10, 2010 (the liberation date of Vietnam's capital city), commemorates Hanoi's 1000 Year Celebration. The celebration consisted of 10 days of sport and cultural activities to entertain visitors. In conjunction with the festivities was Ha Noi's cuisine festival, a picture exhibition, and an evening flying of 1,000 lanterns. A filmed history of Thang Long-Hanoi (including 12 scientific documentary segments) opened during the festival. The Capital Cup boat race, Elder's Society gymnastics parade, and festival of songs about Hanoi were events in Vietnam that guests enjoyed.

Cultural events included a carnival of artists troupes from different cities, provinces, and districts exhibiting their skills. An International Art Festival for Hanoi's 1000th Anniversary included artists troupes from the world's capital cities. On the 7th day, outdoor stages hosted domestic and international performances in fourteen districts of Hanoi. Folk dancers performed at the statue in Ly Thai To square. A dragon dance festival consisted of 100 dragons. A "Time Capsule" commemorating the 1000 Year Anniversary was enshrined on the ninth day of the festival. Martial artists performed at the square of the Ly Thai To statue.

The last day of the Great Anniversary Festival, leaders of the Communist Party, State, and Hanoi City paid tribute to President Ho Chi Minh at his mausoleum. There were solemn meetings, a flag salute, presidential and other dignitaries delivered speeches giving visitors a look at Hanoi‘s political history. A chorus and trumpet orchestra sang and played. The events in Vietnam for the 1000 Year Festival ended with traditional fireworks thrilling travellers to the city.

Asia Top DMC Vietnam (a local agency providing destination management services) offers a unique way of touring Thang Long-Hanoi. Groups are taken through this ancient capital's shrines, temples, and sanctuaries in search of "the Emperor's lost treasure." This is a unique opportunity for business groups (or even families) to take part in the Celebration of 1000 Year Thang Long-Hanoi Festival. The treasure hunt challenges each group through team-building exercises while individuals learn about the city.

"The Emperor's Secret" tour requires individuals to work together against the clock to locate the treasure. They test themselves by moving out of their comfort zone, role-playing, and stretching skills to accomplish their goal. The search can be a half or full day experience, learning to cook a Vietnamese themed dinner at the end. This is a unique, inventive way to tour Hanoi City, Vietnam.
