Disney Hollywood Studios: Backlot Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular!
This is a live theatrical production based on "Raiders of the Lost Ark." Some of the best known scenes from the movie are recreated. It's a thrill a minute, not to be missed, especially by action movie buffs. As the crew sets up for the next scene, the stunts and effects just performed are explained to the audience. The show lasts approximately 30 minutes. Extras are chosen from the first few rows during the pre-show. Expect danger, explosions, amazing acrobatics and, of course, an escape from a very large boulder.
Ride Experience:
This show is a whole lot of fun. Not only are the stunts exciting, but it's interesting to learn how some of them are pulled off. It's based on the first of the "Indiana Jones" movies; the show has changed very little since it opened in 1989. (There have been rumors throughout the years that it would be updated, but nothing has been substantiated by Disney.) Although the basics have remained the same, audience participation makes for a slightly different show each time. If you aren't interested in being picked as an extra, some of the better views are towards the back of the theater. The pre-show is hilarious, an unexpected treat.
The stunts are just as dangerous as they look and require split-second timing by the cast. They do a superb job. Those picked to be extras are never in any danger. The boulder used for the production weighs approximately 440 pounds.
What Disney Says:
"Thrill to the pulse-pounding explosions, crashes, clashes and death-defying stunts of Indiana Jones' onscreen adventures. Sit behind the director's chair to participate in this stage spectacular that reveals some of the moviemaking magic responsible for Indy's triumphs over deadly traps, bad-guy battles and epic-scale obstacles. You may even be chosen to be an extra!"

Authors Comments:
Everyone should get a FASTPASS. You may want to get your Seats: 20 minutes ahead of time. If you want to be picked as an extra, sit towards the front and be extremely enthusiastic. Sorry kids, extras must be at least 18 years old. By sitting in the first few rows you will feel the heat of the flames in some scenes, so keep that in mind, especially on hot days. If you're going with small children remember that this show can be very loud and includes explosions. (See a cast member about the switching off option.) Sometimes the actors are available after the show to sign autographs.
If time allows, try to see Indiana Jones at night. The darkness makes the fire effects even more dazzling. Also, crowds pick up as the day goes on. It's usually easiest to find a seat immediately if you go for the first show of the day. Some people use the strategy of grabbing a FASTPASS for one of the thrill rides as soon as they enter the gates and then head across the park to catch the first performance of Indiana Jones.
Look for the abandoned well outside of the theater. There's a sign that says "Do Not Pull Rope," but the "not" has been crossed off. Give the rope a yank for an unexpected surprise!
