The next revolution brought to rail transportation is the Electrification of Trains. Doubling/quadrupling of railway lines is another progress being carried out to increase freight and passenger transportation capability.

The facility of ""Computerized passenger reservation" has been extended to cover over 92 percent of all reservations done on the system. A universal train radio communication system is proposed to be introduced between driver, guard and the nearest station to facilitate instant response in case of emergencies and accidents.

Mechanization has been done for maintaining Tracks thus to improve quality and to reduce the cost and time for maintenance.
The Railways has also worked in the field of extension and up gradation of inter-modal operations, including containerization. Numerous efforts are made for the completion of the process of rehabilitation, substitution and revitalization of over aged assets.

More and more stations are provided with the availability of Self-printing ticketing machines to reduce the time required for obtaining a ticket.
Not only this equal attention is devoted by the railways for the improvement of manpower productivity, work culture and staff morale.
Thus, there had a tremendous record of developments that have and will be taken for the betterment of Indian Railways.
