The Internet has done it again. Gone are the days of sitting down with a Travel Agent to put together a honeymoon, a cruise, a group tour or a simple vacation package. Now it's possible to use the Internet to find the best travel package and to make all your reservations.

Over eighty percent of all travel bookings are now done online. Over 200,000 traditional Travel Agents have gone out of business in the last ten years. We now have Travelocity, Expedia, Orbitz and many other online popular websites to search for the best flight, hotel, cruise, and all-inclusive travel package to book all travel arrangements. And with the Internet it has become more convenient and efficient with email notifications and even text messages for your mobile devices.

The 18-35 year old group is the most popular, but even baby boomers are becoming more comfortable with using the Internet for travel bookings. Travel is annually a seven trillion dollar industry worldwide with the average family spending $4,200 per year for family vacations. That number will double in the next five years to $14 trillion dollars making the largest industry is the world twice as big. The biggest reason is that the first year of baby boomers have started retiring with travel being the most popular activity for retirees.

The trend indicates that over the next five years more and more will rely on the Internet and mobile devices of all types to provide the travel services that have traditionally been provided by Travel Agents. This trend builds upon the transition we have already made from a cash or check society to a credit and debit card one. This is perhaps the largest market shift in business history. It is a simple usually late navigating to find China travel tours, cruise travel tips, Disney family travel, Olympic travel and even all inclusive travel.

The smart traveler will learn to use the Internet in manner in keeping with the times. There are tools and methods to reduce your overall cost and making you sure that you find the best travel deal available at a specific moment. We will explore this in Part 2 of our worldwide travel series.
