Although a diagnosis of breast cancer can be heartbreaking, a diagnosis of mesothelioma cancer can be even more devastating. Mesothelioma is a very rare form of cancer that is very difficult to treat. However, new studies may have come across a way to successfully treat not only mesothelioma cancer but other forms of cancer as well using, what doctors call, anti-angiogenesis drugs.

Angiogenesis refers to the formation of new blood vessels. The body naturally creates new blood vessels in order to supply blood and nutrients to various parts of the body. Normally this just occurs with healthy cells, but cancer cells also have the ability to form new blood vessels, as well. When someone has cancer, at first the cancer cells just form blood vessels around the general area.

However, as the cancer spreads, the new cancer cells start to form blood vessels of their own which increases the problem. Now, with anti-angiogenesis drugs, it may be possible to stop the cancer cells from forming new blood vessels which could mean stoppage of the growth of the cancer cells. This would make it much easier for surgeons who can better find and remove the current cancer cells, and keep new ones from forming.

Although the drugs are still under development there is great hope that one day families and friends of people with mesothelioma and other forms of cancer will never have to deal with the stress, and hardship that comes from losing a loved one to cancer.
