Some people consider internet marketing the Holy Grail of making money online. They think that they need to spend loads of money to get traffic to their site. Internet marketing is not only about bringing traffic to a website, it's about generating traffic, making them stay at your site and converting them into buyers or action takers. Good Customer Service and user-interaction elements on your site are also a part of the internet marketing plan.

The general process is to bring traffic on your site using various strategies like SEO, Adwords, Social media marketing, banners, ads, articles, videos and various traffic generation program; designing you site keeping user's navigation habits in mind, putting exciting content on the site, and creating conversion points to convert them into buyers. Then, creating a customer service process to facilitate your customers and making their stay a pleasurable experience.

However, you need to test everything to create a winning marketing plan. More than 95% of the people just jump in and start doing marketing using a variety of strategies. This constitutes disaster. Not only do you loose money, you also fail to generate a ROI (Return on Investment) for the paid marketing.

Let me clear up one thing here. Many people think that free marketing strategies like article marketing, Social book markings, videos and audios can bring quality targeted traffic on your site. This is not 100% true. Paid advertising and paid marketing are an important part of any marketing strategy. The quality of traffic is usually higher than free traffic sources. Therefore, you should mix all the available ingredients in proportionate quantities to get good results. For example, if you are doing article marketing, you should do Google Adwords too that go along nicely with article marketing.

The important thing is to develop a strategy and execute it. If the strategy fails, you can change it and include other marketing strategies like creating videos and audios to bring traffic.

Social bookmarking or social media marketing is more related to SEO (Search Engine Optimization). If you're considering bringing targeted traffic from social media sites, you'll find that it's really hard to convert them into buyers. So use social media marketing for SEO purposes.

Mostly paid marketing strategies bring traffic that converts on your site. However, you should be careful. Calculate the ROI and assess the quality of traffic before doing paid marketing. Adwords are really dangerous because you can loose money quickly, if you do not learn the mechanics of Adwords.

So, marketing plans are important. Create a good marketing plan and test it. If it gives you the targeted traffic, continue with it and if it doesn't, change it and create another. A successful marketing strategy has both free and paid marketing strategies. Testing is important too. Without testing, you'd never know what works for you and what doesn't. So test a marketing plan before rolling it out in full.
